Understanding Detoxification Services for Addiction Recovery.
This Wiki is in context to the Non 12 step program developed by Gulf Breeze Recovery called THRIVE: Total Health Recovery.
Everyone entering treatment receives a clinical assessment to determine if detoxification services are needed.
A complete assessment of an individual is needed to help treatment professionals offer the type of treatment that best suits him or her. Based on the assessment, the counselor may refer your family member to a physician to decide whether he or she needs medical supervision to stop alcohol or drug use safely. Medically supervised withdrawal (often called detoxification or detox) uses medication to help people withdraw from alcohol or drugs. People who have been taking large amounts of opioids (e.g., heroin, OxyContin®, or codeine), barbiturates or sedatives (“downers”), pain medications, or alcohol— either alone or together—may need medically monitored or managed withdrawal services.
Sometimes, alcohol withdrawal can be so severe that people hallucinate, have convulsions, or develop other dangerous conditions. Medication can help prevent or treat such conditions. Anyone who has once had hallucinations or seizures from alcohol withdrawal or who has another serious illness or (in some cases) a mental disorder that could complicate detoxification may need medical supervision to detoxify safely.
Medically supervised withdrawal can take place on a regular medical ward of a hospital, in a specialized inpatient detoxification unit, or on an outpatient basis with close medical supervision. Detoxification may take several days to a week or more. During that time, the person will receive medical care and may begin to receive education about his or her disease.
Gulf Breeze Recovery's non-12 step holistic drug and alcohol treatment facility includes a medically licensed detoxification wing with private rooms and on-site medical staff 24/7.
Traditional drug detoxification and recovery programs usually encourage their participants to act under the notion that there is a chronic weakness to recognize and to indefinitely treat. A holistic drug rehab program like Gulf Breeze Recovery focuses on an “inside-out” approach that immediately communicates to participants that they are not broken and that they have innocently lost their way because of addiction and the subsequent lifestyle. A truly holistic approach assists program participants in rediscovering their own inner self-worth and reconnecting with who they really are.
A holistic drug rehab program focuses on an “inside-out” approach.
“Inside-out” is simple and easy, but the results are comprehensive and lasting. While the phrasing of “inside-out” seems simple and easy to understand, the results of our THRIVE® approach to rehabilitation and drug detoxification are comprehensive and lasting. We encourage mindfulness and awareness while treating the whole person. We hope to encourage an understanding that we are all born with the ability to be happy and to choose how we respond to our thoughts and subsequent feelings. Understanding and recognizing the strength of being the author of their experiences is crucial to the success of any holistic drug rehab’s participants.
