While working in other treatment facilities, I found inconsistencies (staff and counselors not “walking the walk,” job burnout, preferential treatment, etc.)
…that adversely affected those who were seeking help. I found that handling the “details” such as an individualized program, multiple one-on-one therapy sessions, atmosphere, food, cleanliness of facility, treating people with dignity and respect were almost as important as the program. One “detail” that stood out above all others is what I call the “health of the helper.”
The only way that a residential treatment environment can be truly therapeutic and helpful is to create a culture where staff are authentically healthy, happy and have a passion for what they do. When I say staff, I mean everyone: support staff, chefs, nurses, doctors, administration, therapists, etc. A true sense of caring carries over into the entire program. After all, if the “guest” is not treated with dignity and importance, how do they build it in themselves??
When designing a treatment center, one of the most important factors was to have a program and system that promotes health both physically and mentally. This concept has proven to be incredibly effective. Building a program with the top priority and end result being to enable our guests to see their own health and to live a sober life that is happy has been unbelievably rewarding.

I am likely the one who will answer the phone when you call. First and foremost, I am here to listen.
I can also answer questions concerning the program and even those “hard” questions that can sometimes be personal in nature and hard to ask. I take pride in ensuring that all calls are always confidential.
I love my job, talking to people who are looking for help for their loved one’s or their own drug or alcohol problem, knowing that Gulf Breeze Recovery has a solution.
One of the things I love most about working at Gulf Breeze Recovery, is that I get to meet our guests when they first come in. Sometimes people come in nervous and scared. Our staff works hard to take care of our guests and to ease their fear. It is important for us to help people understand that they have made the right choice in one of the best decisions of their life. My favorite day is graduation day. Everyone who graduates always talks about how glad they are to have made the decision to come here. Also, I get to see an entirely different person than I met day one. Their step is lighter, their eyes are brighter and they are happy again.
I get to come to work everyday and see people learning and growing right before my eyes.
For me working at Gulf Breeze recovery is not a job, it is a true calling. I am so grateful to be part of this amazing program.

My endorsement of the program is more than clinical, it’s personal. I offer hope as a man who has been sober for over 20 years from opioids and has been on the same “side” of the bed as our guests. Because I have been there, making the detoxification process safe and comfortable is my passion.
Having worked with Gulf Breeze Recovery since its inception, I developed all of the detoxification protocols and personally oversee the detoxification program and processes. I am a board-certified addiction specialist (addictionologist) and have been practicing in family medicine for 34 years. I personally see and take care of every guest who attends Gulf Breeze Recovery.

I have a passion for seeing the guests at Gulf Breeze Recovery rediscover their health and well-being. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor
and Clinical Director at Gulf Breeze Recovery, and have worked here since its inception. In my role as Clinical Director, I guide the clinical team, providing supervision, and safeguarding the culture of health and self-care, ensuring that the guests of the program receive the best possible care.
Having struggled caring for my own family member suffering with alcohol addiction, I am dedicated to helping families work through addiction issues. After helping to create and maintain the family support group at Gulf Breeze Recovery, it has become an ongoing resource available to family members and loved ones who have graduated from the program.
I earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Troy University and I’m also a Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional. Providing counseling services in the Escambia County Jail, while working with individuals struggling with addiction and many other life concerns helped “pave” the way in my career. In the role as Clinical Director, I maintain active communication with an international community of experts and specialists related to addiction, recovery, and holistic well-being. My travels allow me to continue to grow personally and maintain a modern perspective that places each client’s well-being at the center of treatment.
