I had been to 12 step rehabs before and it just hadn't worked for me.
The following is directly transcribed from Morgan's testimonial: My Mom found Gulf Breeze Recovery on the internet. I told her I didn't want to go to a 12 step rehab because I had been to 12 step rehabs before and it just hadn't worked for me. She looked up non-12 step rehabs and found Gulf Breeze Recovery, and we both just had a good feeling about it.
I lost my job, totaled my car, went through all my money, so I had to wake up every day and scheme and manipulate people and worry how am I going to get what I need. It was just too much, and I knew that I didn't want to continue.
I went to detox, and I thought that once I got all the drugs out of my system would be fine. But once I started doing heroin again my family found out, and they tried to do everything they could, but I couldn't stop.
By now I've been too close to 30 detoxes and a couple of 12 step programs and a halfway house. Before coming to Gulf Breeze Recovery I never stayed, and I never completed any of them. There was so much negativity, and you had to relive your past, and I didn't like that you were labeled a drug addict and you have to admit you have a disease. Nothing ever worked because there was something deeper at work and I didn't know what it was.
I felt like I needed to go a lot deeper than the 12 step programs and I wasn't sure how.
It's crazy because being here you find out who you are and I think that's what was missing from the other places. I had already known what I had done in my past, and I needed to figure out what was causing my heroin addiction. I felt like I needed to go a lot deeper and I wasn't sure how.
I had done the 12 steps, I could tell you everything about them, and it just wasn't clicking for me however, being here something went off in my head, and it just made a lot of sense. That's what was always missing from all the other rehabs.
I learned we're born with this innate happiness and joy and our natural state is to feel peaceful, just be being happy and content with right now. So I thought if this is how we're born then it only gets covered up by these blocks in our thinking and with what we're taught when we're growing up. Once you take that away, you can find yourself, and it's pretty amazing.
When I got here I was I was nervous and I I felt like I had tried everything so many times, and nothing worked, but I just figured I'd give it a chance. Gulf Breeze Recovery's THRIVE® program was different than anything I had done before, so I just tried to be open-minded.
When I came to Gulf Breeze Recovery, I was in detox for about a week. The nurses are just so kind, and they treat you like you're their family. They make you comfortable, and they do everything they can to make sure you're comfortable which is something I've never experienced at a detox before.
Then I started the spa, it just it makes you feel so much better, just getting
everything out of your system. It does wonders for your skin, but just being treated as a human and being treated with respect and not only as a number makes such a difference.
Once you finish the spa and detox, you start doing classes, and you have different counselors teaching the classes which are great because you get to get this information from different perspectives so you can learn something from all of them.
The difference between this place and the places I had been to before was that this place is so beautiful and it's so clean, it's right on the water, and the staff is just so caring it makes you feel comfortable and open-minded. I noticed that a lot of the people in the other places I had been to weren't taking it seriously and they would bring in drugs and this place wasn't like that.
The food is fantastic, probably some of the best food I have had my life. You can have your family come down. Every Saturday we pick somewhere to go. We go kayaking or to the movies, and it's nice to get out because a lot of other places don't do that unless you're going to AA meetings. We go on outings to do normal things you do on the outside, so you don't feel like you're coming from a treatment center. You don't feel like you're a drug addict. You feel like you're just a regular person.
When I was doing heroin, it got to the point where it wasn't even working anymore, and it wasn't filling that void. I did it because I hated how I felt. I can honestly say that I love myself today and I am comfortable in my skin, and I could have never said that before.
At Gulf Breeze Recovery I've felt this freedom within myself. Once you can let go of the past and forgive others, and most importantly, forgive yourself you automatically feel this peace and this happiness inside like something I never felt before. I have a different outlook on life. Before I felt like, my life sucks, it's always going to suck, I was not happy no matter what. I just always felt this sick feeling in my stomach, this constant anxiety and I don't have that today.
Coming to Gulf Breeze Recovery changed my life.
I want people to know that there is a way out and if you're willing to give it a chance, then this place will make you realize that we have so much potential. Maybe it's all just common sense that gets covered up by your thinking, but now I have this indescribable feeling, this energy that I've never felt before.
What they teach here, it's not just for addicts; it's for everyday people. I wish that they would show this in school systems because I think everybody, every single person on this planet, can benefit from what they offer at Gulf Breeze Recovery.
